Melk bij de wijn: Genetic Choir & De Vorlesebühne

The Genetic Choir teams up again with the writer’s collective De Vorlesebühne to present an evening of prose and music at Molen De Ster in Utrecht on Saturday 17 March. An evening of vocal absurdity not to be missed!

You can dine together with the performers from 18:15 inside a historic windmill. Jolanda’s Kitchen prepares a delicious and nutritious three-course menu. Reservation via vorlesebuhne@gmail.com is mandatory, at the latest on Thursday 15th March.

a Genetic Choir workshop

(1) resonance_originalThe voice is a special system in our body – it is eager to learn and it reacts to its own sounds. By opening your ears alone, your voice can learn to become more free and resonant.

This workshop will improve your voice by focussing for one weekend on the aspects of sound that are often overlooked: resonance, texture, timbre, overtones. Whatever level of experience you are at, this work will increase your singing skill: Beginners will be surprised about the round and resonant sound that their voice will gain, and the ease of singing that comes with it. Experienced and professional singers will improve their ability to do precision-work in this area: Using timbre and textures to compose music, solo and ‘en groupe’. How to create both soothing carpets of sound and grinding dissonant cluster-chords. How to develop the music together, how to dissolve your voice in a sea of sounds, but also make clearly defined choices and go your own way, if you are inclined to.

With Poet and Dancers on IMPROV XL

The Genetic Choir will perform this Sunday on a freely accessible, big improvisation event in Utrecht:

Stairway to Heaven, Mariaplaats 11 – 12, Utrecht

We are supporting this event with a Genetic Choir performance of 45 minutes at +/- 19:00.

It will be a concert both on our own and in collaboration with dancers and absurd poet Bernhard Christiansen. Later on, we will also invite the audience to sing together with us.

Throughout the whole day, there will be lots of possibilities to join as active improviser of any discipline, including a MegaJam at around 21:00.

Improvisation pianist Freek Zwanenburg gets the credits for organising this massive get-together.

He writes: “De enorme kracht van improvisatie wordt nog onderschat, terwijl juist het vermogen tot improviseren een essentieel onderdeel is van de huidige transitie naar nieuwe vormen van samenleven en organiseren. IMPROV XL toont de wereld van mogelijkheden die zich opent als je, met behoud van al je kennis en vaardigheden, in het diepe springt en je intuïtie volgt.

improvXL_bontIMPROV XL is er voor iedereen die gek is op improvisatie, of er graag kennis mee wil maken. Ook beantwoordt het festival aan de behoefte van een groeiende groep kantelaars, vernieuwers en dwarsdenkers om samen te komen, geïnspireerd te worden en in een gezamenlijke flow nieuwe dingen te creëren.”
