Japan tour with puppeteers

The Genetic Choir Ensemble is set to travel to Japan in September this year, to first perform on the Creative Music Festival 2016 in Hiroshima, and afterwards join Bunraku company Mokugu-sha on a small tour in Tokushima prefecture. Performances in Japan will be on 18/19 September and 22/25 September 2016.

We are very happy for this opportunity to work interdisciplinary with puppetry, as the special link between inanimate objects and sound will also be a focus on this weekend’s Genetic Choir workshop in Amsterdam: Material Grooves (2/3 april)

The upcoming visit to Japan will help us to investigate further a bigger Japan project that we are brewing on for 2017/2018, envisioned as a multi-disciplinary research between puppeteers, dancers, singers and water-engineers. (!)

Save the dates if you happen to be near Hiroshima or Tokushima in autumn.  🙂

Photo series of concert at dawn in Muziekgebouw a/h Ij

If you follow this link, you will find photo impressions of the Sunrise Concert the Genetic Choir gave on 11 October 2015 in the Muziekgebouw aan het Ij.

We were part of the 24hour Resonance event initiated by Merlijn Twaalfhoven, with a one-hour concert of Genetic Choir music with invited dancers between 7 and 8am and a collaboration with several World Music singers in the following music block, that was curated by Yinske Silva. Great memories!

With Poet and Dancers on IMPROV XL

The Genetic Choir will perform this Sunday on a freely accessible, big improvisation event in Utrecht:

improvXL_kennedyIMPROV XL

Sunday, 17 May 2015
from 14:00 to 23:00

Stairway to Heaven, Mariaplaats 11 – 12, Utrecht

We are supporting this event with a Genetic Choir performance of 45 minutes at +/- 19:00.

It will be a concert both on our own and in collaboration with dancers and absurd poet Bernhard Christiansen. Later on, we will also invite the audience to sing together with us.

Throughout the whole day, there will be lots of possibilities to join as active improviser of any discipline, including a MegaJam at around 21:00.

Improvisation pianist Freek Zwanenburg gets the credits for organising this massive get-together.

See you there!

Particle Fields and 3D Laser Objects

There’s a concert coming up, and not just any concert.

This Saturday, 8th of February 2014, the Genetic Choir will sing visually enhanced vocal improvisations on

THE CUMULUS 2

in the Kunstkapel, Amsterdam.

vladimir grafov

We will be vocally morphing a 3D laser object created by Vladimir Grafov
and Ksenia Pankratova; we will sing micro-pitch extravaganzas during a piece by Lee Ellickson Alfredo Genovesi; and we will round the evening off vocally interacting with the projected particle fields of Joris de Jong.

All part of an exciting, long evening with even more artists who will make the circular, futuristic space of the Kunstkapel vibrate with sound and images.
