Genetic Choir workshops are open to everyone. Be prepared to work intensely, but don’t worry about your level of experience – no specific vocal skills are required to join. At the same time, experienced and professional singers are always pleasantly surprised and deeply challenged by the high standard of working, notwithstanding the different types of singers present. Any participant is challenged in his/her assumptions about music making and the possibility of their own voice, and leaves our workshops enriched, tired and highly energised. 🙂
The workshops are our own laboratory and training ground, and we are happy to share the work with you!
Upcoming workshops are listed below. Be welcome!
If you would like to join, see payment and contact details underneath the workshop description. For questions: email@example.com
One-day session of Genetic Choir voice work and instant composing. Join us, even if you are new to it. There is a dedicated group of people in Breda who want to build their improvisation expertise in regular workshops, so Genetic Choir is in Breda to stay 🙂

When we improvise with our voices, sometimes sounds emerge which are language-like, or even very much like comprehensible words. How do we treat this moment when singers are on the verge of becoming improvising poets?
It is fun to play with the sound of words, mix them and change them. It is what children do a lot and it is a bliss to indulge ourselves into this word-sound playfulness.
But as improvisers, we are looking for more: clarity and depth of expression, not only in music but also when words come in to play. For the audience, the shift from music to words is sudden, because our minds work that way: they cling to understandable words and story whenever they can. So how do we treat this shift as improvisers? How do we keep the imagination open when words pretend to pin down all meaning? Can we serve both, the god of poetry and the god of music? Or even better: can we stay in the no-mans land between music and meaning, and take all our time to balance on the Edge of Language?
To reserve your place in this workshop:
Regular training/composing sessions in Genetic Choir work on Friday mornings. We do it in a two-week rhythm (every other Friday) and have blocks of 8 sessions in a row, with a fixed group for that block.
No specific singing background is required, but we ask you to do at least one Genetic Choir workshop first, in order for you to find out whether you enjoy the work we do. Participants commit for a set of 8 sessions, so that we can deepen the work from one session to the next.
The sessions are also training ground for the professional Ensemble, so you will mingle with both new and experienced Genetic Choir singers.
The upcoming block in January-April 2019 is full.
If you are interested to join from September 2019, send us an e-mail: email@example.com
