How it all works…

The Genetic Choir is two things at the same time: a method for improvisation singing and a group of people who train and instantly compose together frequently. There’s a performers group of experienced singers, who sings concerts in – often unusual – locations.

The Genetic Choir way of working is continuously being developed by the people who come to workhops and sessions, lead in the work by Thomas Johannsen. Often enough, there are longer workshops where Genetic Choir singers train specific aspects of their trait, but which are at the same time open for anyone to join (look here).

As soon as you have gained a basic understanding of the work by following one of the Genetic Choir workshops, you can also come to the

Regular Genetic Choir sessions

This is the place where Genetic Choir singers meet regularly, train and try out new ideas for the work. Each session has a theme and sometimes guest teachers are invited to enlighten us about things and give inspiration for new developments.

For a contribution of 60 Euro per year, you can come to all the session within a season. Singers who come regularly can also participate in special projects that happen next to the sessions.  (there are +/- 8 regular sessions per season, not counting other projects)

For people who don’t like to commit there is also the possibility to join single sessions. This option is open to experienced Genetic Choir singers. We love regular attendance, but don’t want to exclude you if you need to keep your options open and just want to join when it fits. It is always great to see old veterans returning for a session!

If you are new to the Choir and would like to have a small taste of the work before committing to a workshop, you are allowed to come once as a guest (but only 1 guest per session, so please get in contact first).  As a rule, new people are asked to follow one of the workshops before coming to the sessions regularly, so that we can keep the quality of the work during the sessions high.

By the way, we are welcoming any initiative for collaborations and special projects coming from inside or outside the group. Just get in contact!
